Glee Hits Manchester

On Wednesday (21st June) the MEN Arena welcomed the West McKinley High School Glee club with open arms. Cheerleaders were cheering, GLEEKS were screaming, even dragged along partners and parents were singing.

The Golden Globe award winning cast opened the show with their most successful cover, GLEE anthem, Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. They were later joined by new additions to the cast ‘Trouty Mouth’ Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet), Pucks latest on/off girlfriend, Lauren Zizes (Ashley Fink) and the GLEE club’s rival show choir,  The Dalton Academy ‘Warblers’ treated the rapturous audience to a few numbers too.

Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) rocked out to Florence and The Machines  Dog Days are Over; Kurt (Chris Colfer) fittingly paid homage to the North’s most famous band singing The Beatles I Want To Hold Your Hand (although this was beautifully sung, Kurt’s finest moment had to be that dance, to that song  - Beyonce’s Single Ladies) and Brittany paid tribute to her pop icon, Britney, with an impressive and energetic performance of I’m a Slave for You.

As you would expect Rachel and Finn had their opportunities to shine on stage leading the show choir in a performance of Queen’s Somebody To Love to name but one.

The full cast rendition of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way was definitely a high point of the show with many GLEEKS in the audience showing off their ‘Likes Boys’ and ‘Bitch’ t-shirts.

People can say what they want about Glee, it may not be to everyone’s taste, but the young American starlets certainly delivered an entertaining, enjoyable show for all. The GLEE cast are quite simply, infectious
