Tenacious D Interview!
Prior
to their UK tour this June, we had the pleasure of speaking with the
lyrically outrageous and fun-loving metal band, Tenacious D. Band
members and friends, Jack Black and Kyle Glass, were happy to talk
about the release of their latest album, “Rize of the Fenix”,
after it smashed the charts at no.2.
The musicians were first quizzed on what had ended their hiatus, having last released an album in 2006, to which Kyle replied, “I'm gonna go with love of the game”. And while the band's “love of the game” may have reunited the pair, Jack had a new inspiration, stating “My inspiration really was my children”. Jack continued to talk about further inspirations, “I guess the inspiration was the haters, the non-believers, they inspired us to fight much harder. I mean it's definitely our comeback album”.
Jack and Kyle both appeared to have high hopes for their latest album, but despite what the critics think, the band are happy to be back together making music, Jack continued, “It's better than ever, really. The older I get, the more I appreciate comradely and the creative buzz”.
Before their June tour, the band explained why they enjoy performing in the UK, saying “The UK has always been some of the best shows we've had. They just have a deeper appreciation for rock than the rest of the world”.
With Jack and Kyle set to rock out at Manchester Apollo on Sunday 10th June, the band gave insight to what they love to do in the city, “I like to go to a book store and curl up in the corner, read some Sherlock Holmes and talk to some Mancunians. I like to have a spot of tea and a crumpet”. While funny-man, Jack Black, poked fun of British culture, he insisted that Manchester “rocked”, finishing by saying, “It's the Philadelphia of England. That's a compliment, they're a very rocking audience”.
