With the Eurocultured festival taking place throughout Manchester on the 29th and 30th of May, events and line-ups are beginning to filter through with some must-see acts. Swedish dance act Slagmalsklubben have recently confirmed for the event, as well as Balkan Beat Box and French dance act Adam Kesher. The event Large is looking forward to the most however is the Manchester European Soul Weekender which is being held in the famous Grand Ballroom of the Palace Hotel on Oxford Road on the 29th. This is sure to be the highlight of the Northern and Rare Soul calendar for 2011, taking place from 2pm until 2am if you think your feet can handle all that dancing.
Event organiser Gary Bratchford, with support from local DJ Liam Quinn, have set the standards high by commissioning a custom dance floor to be installed into the hotel that will transform the Grand Ballroom into the finest venue in the country, while hosting some of Europe's finest Soul DJ's and collectors.
Mixing British and specifically Mancunian talent with Europe's best, soul fans can expect to hear the finest soul music on vinyl from John Green and Pete Roberts of the Twisted Wheel, Soul or Nothing's Steve Cato, and Liam Quinn of Beat Boutique fame. The European contingent is just as strong, with Sir Matt Fox (Soul City, Cologne), Sweden's Christian Ostlund of Soulastatic (Gothenburg) and Edu from Barcelona's Movin' On Weekender delving deep into their enviable record boxes to represent the youthful movement of Europe's well-established soul scene.
This colossal 12 hour soul fest will be followed by a lighter and more relaxed session across the road at Pure Space Bar from 2pm till 8pm on the 30th and will include extra DJ sets from Salford FM's Has and Allan and Paul Barker.
As part of the festivities, Large has tickets to give away to the Eurocultured event, as well as return flights and accommodation for the Eurocultured festival taking place in Finland on the 21st and 22nd of May. Head on over to our competitions page to see what needs to be done!
